　　2008年5月19日是第一個真正意義上的“世界肝炎日”，世界肝炎聯(lián)盟(WHA)將聯(lián)手世界衛(wèi)生組織、其他聯(lián)合國組織、紅十字會、開放性社會研究所(Open SocietyInstitute)、蓋茨基金會(Gates Foundation)等機構，于2008年5月19日在全球正式啟動為期5年的“世界肝炎日”運動。這是世界肝炎聯(lián)盟成立以來首次舉行的世界范圍內活動，屆時，遍布全球五大洲的200多份個組織將同步行動，喚起世界人民對病毒性肝炎防治工作的關注和重視。在中國，世界肝炎聯(lián)盟(WHA)將攜手中國肝炎基金會開展推廣相關活動，讓全國人民慎重意識到乙肝正嚴重威脅著人類健康，最終協(xié)助全人類共同控制肝炎疾病的感染與蔓延。

　　本次世界肝炎日的主要目的就是提高公眾對病毒性性肝炎(包括乙肝和丙肝)的認知，了解病毒性肝炎對公眾健康的威脅。“我是第十二個嗎?(AmInumber12?)”是第一屆世界肝炎日的主題，意指全球大約12個人中就有一個是慢性病毒性肝炎患者(包括乙肝和丙肝)，這些人很可能就在你我的身邊，而并未能得到及時的診斷。
